Three students from Booker T. Washington High School took on the challenge of a “Food Fight” for RSU-TV. Sydney Bracher, Lily Oertel and Molly Wilson competed in the food challenge last spring. They brought varying cooking backgrounds and experiences to the kitchen. The competition was intense and put their skills to the test. To increase the heat and pressure, they were competing for college scholarship money.
The teams were supplied with a recipe for an entrée, side dish, and dessert and given one-hour to complete the meal. Judges were evaluating sanitary procedures, cooking processes, taste, presentation, communication, and teamwork.
They prepared beef stroganoff on buttery egg noodles and caramelized broccoli. For the dessert, they created a chantilly cream on a mixed berry compote on a vanilla cake shell.
“These young ladies worked together extremely well. They divided up the preparation tasks and worked within the time constraints to plate very tasty and well-presented dishes,” commented Joey Newsom, the BTW faculty sponsor.
Food Fight can be viewed on-demand on the RSU-TV website.
